NVQ qualifications offer you the chance to use interesting, relevant, and practical ways to engage learning whilst studying for a nationally recognised qualification.
NVQ qualifications are delivered entirely in the workplace, at a time that is convenient to you. Taught by friendly and professional trainers who will utilise the course hours and visits to support and encourage active participation.
• 5 compulsory units to complete (34 credits) within 6 months
• At least 1 unit from Section B (4 credits)
• A further minimum of 7 credits can come from either Section B or C
Compulsory units are:
• Unit 301 Provide leadership for your team: work towards common goals, integrity in
leadership, motivating team members
• Unit 302 Develop productive working relationships: clear definition of responsibilities,
prioritising, excellent information dissemination, resolve differences, understand group
dynamics in team, live the culture
• Unit 303 Contribute to control of resources: quality and quantity of resources, how to
allocate resources to best results, keeping track of what you have, maintenance of equipment,
• Unit 304 Maintain the health, hygiene, safety & security of the working environment:
adequate training, following company standards & procedures, understand legal obligations
• Unit 305 Lead a team to improve customer service: Understand team member’s capabilities
and company constraints, guide and develop team performance, understand implications of
poor customer service – knowledge of business & customer is key
How to get started:
• Skills scan = are you on the right qualification for your job?
• Select optional units from Section B & C (at least one must come from Section B)
• Make sure you have all the right units and are working towards a min. 45 credits.
• Complete paperwork because we love paperwork
• Submit paperwork in order to register new students
• Ready to start in 6 weeks
Working out an assessment plan
• What are the units covered
• Where you will be assessed e.g. restaurant etc
• When - to ensure a range of shifts are covered e.g. morning rush, lunch rush etc, team meetings
• What kind of evidence are we looking at
• Who will be assessing you
Collating evidence & working on your logbook
• Discuss types of evidence suitable for each unit
• Record each assessment and evidence given
• Assessments happen twice a month
Formal reviews
• Catch up and discuss progress
• Set targets to improve or praise where it deserves
• A formal review will take each place every 6 weeks
Collecting evidence
• Students are expected to collect evidence to show they are competent in the areas of leadership
and supervision in a ‘hospitality’ environment
• Evidence includes:
• Observations – complete with assessor’s notes
• Minutes from team meetings/briefings
• Notes from training sessions delivered
• Results showing that you have achieved targets set
• Positive feedback from team or supervisors
• 3rd party statements e.g. team members who attended a training session and giving positive
feedback
• Plans which have been devised to achieve either short-term or long-term goals for your company
• Photos
• Types of evidence are not exhaustive and really depend on creativity and what the student does
in her day-to-day role as a person with a leadership/supervision role.
