HABC National Certificate for Personal Licence Holders 

The HABC Award for Personal Licence Holders is for everyone who has responsibility for retailing alcohol. Anyone who wishes to sell or authorize the sale of alcohol specifically those who work in licensed premises or any venue or site where alcohol is sold, for drinking on or off the premises.

There are 3 types of learning:

Classroom based. Learn in a classroom. Ask questions and have an exam at the end where you will receive an Awarding Body certificate 

Online Based. Learn at work or at home. You may do an exam at the end of the course and receive a learning certificate

Blended Learning. learn at your own pace either work or at home. Take the exam in the classroom and receive an accredited HABC Awarding Body certificate

What am I going to learn?

  • The roles, responsibilities and functions of licensing authorities   

  • The application process for a personal licence holder

  • The role and legal responsibilities of the personal licence holder

  • Penalties relating to failure to comply with the law

  • The content and purpose of operating schedules

  • The role and duties of the designated premises supervisor

  • Unauthorised licensable activities

  • Permitted temporary licensable activities

  • Rights of entry to licensed premises

  • Police powers

  • The specific prohibitions for the sale of alcohol

  • The strengths of alcoholic drinks

  • The protection of children from harm

  • The responsible retail sale of alcohol

Is there a test involved?

In order to attain the award, all candidates must take a 40 question multiple choice test (pass mark: 28/40).  Tests are marked by the Awarding Body and the results/certificate are not available on the day of the course. 

Things you should know

The course, workbooks and exam paper are only available in English for this course. Lunch is not included though we will have a break for 60 minutes so everyone can get out for a bit of fresh air and a bite to eat.
